Schumacher yellow minispike tyre life
Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:48 am
I'd be interested to know how much run time you expect to get out of your buggy tyres? 2WD and 4WD
I ran yellow mini spikes on the rear yesterday that looked ok - used but ok - but I could not get a setup to work, especially later in the day when the track got dusty. Is it a 2WD thing? - you can't get away without fairly new spikes on the rear? Or do I need to keep working on a setup?
My tyre life from yesterday:
2 x 5 minute runs before yesterday's meeting: 10 minutes
6 races yesterday and a final, plus a few practice laps during the day: 35 minutes
TOTAL TYRE RUN TIME: 45 mins - and I felt like I had no grip from half way through the day.
So, my 2WD rear tyre life would be only 25 minutes run time. Front cut staggers look like they'll go on for months!

As the track is now you need at least 2 new sets per meeting for 2WD!

I've ran both 2WD and 4WD there, my experiences are;
2WD - I am starting to lose grip towards the end of the heats. In an ideal world I'd have another set for the final, but I run as they are. As you said, fronts will last months.
4WD - I guess it depends on how aggressive you drive, but I easily get a full meeting from 4WD tyres and to me no real drop in performance during the final. I reckon I would probably get away with two meetings on a set (but knowing it would be a bit loser during the 2nd meeting, but you can get away with it in 4WD). I also don't tend to practice before hand, as to restrict the wear.

Thanks Zipper, your 2wd wear rate sounds similar to me. I’m sure rears never used to wear so quickly back in the day! I’m going to end up with a boot full of half worn yellow mini spikes…unless I find a cheap 4wd buggy on eBay to use them on

Yep, I'm sure a set of tyres would last me about 3 meetings before! Maybe because the cars are so quick these days, they just wear more. I will try greens at some point, to see what they are like and how they last.
On astro, I run mezzos on the back of a 2wd and you can easily get 2 meetings, maybe 3 out of them.
