Not really a set up but following on from what I mentioned to Jim about people returning or starting in the hobby and not wanting to invest £200 on an ESC, I ran one of these in my 4wd on Sunday and whilst clearly not as smooth or adjustable as a top spec model, it didn't miss a beat, overheat or (at my level anyway) hold me back:
